nutrition counseling in austin, TX
Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective (enter: nutrition counseling!) and a casual deep dive into how society has totally effed up our ability to have a healthy relationship with food and our bodies. No seriously, you’re not crazy for wanting to try the latest fad diet or change the way your body looks. But those incessant thoughts are taking away from the life you want to be living so it is truly time to do something different.
If you just try “harder” to eat “right”, then the rest of life’s woes and worries would just go away. Your brain is constantly sifting through past patterns, current rules, and the “what ifs” of the future and eventually you just want to throw in the towel because it’s all too much. But the last word you’d use to describe yourself is a quitter, so it’s time to try the next thing. And this time you know it’s going to work.
Have you ever gone down a rabbit hole of nutrition information? Food is meant to be more than just energy - it's a way to connect with your culture and your community. Intuitive eating is a food philosophy centered around removing food rules and finding foods that make us feel good. Part of that process explores learning to trust yourself and honor your body.
When we seek control around food and our body, it's easy to flip to where food and our bodies to start controlling our life. Eating disorder recovery is a collaborative journey with the goal of making food less stressful and less in charge of your life. Nutrition counseling is one piece of eating disorder recovery and my philosophy centers you, your culture, and goals outside of food and body.
I am in-network with BCBS and BCBSTX STAR/STAR Kids/CHIP Plans. It is important for me that you are able to understand and utilize your benefits. If we'd be a good fit but I don't accept your insurance, we can explore out-of-network coverage using superbills.
Eating disorders are my speciality. It's more than just the nutrition education. It's about the feelings that come with food too. My work is rooted in Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size (HAES) principles.
Trastornos de la alimentación y la cultura de las dietas no discrimina. Si necesitas ayuda en Español o tienes familia que habla español, puedo trabajar contigo y tu familia.
During the discovery call, the goal is to make sure we're a good fit! I'd love to hear about your goals and expectations and answer any questions you have, like what sessions look like and utilizing insurance.
At the end of the discovery call, if we're a good fit, then we'll get the initial appointment scheduled at a time that works best for both of us!
I'll send you an Insurance Benefit Questionnaire with a list of questions to ask your insurance so you can know what coverage looks like. I ask that you email me the answer to the questions and decide if you'd like to move forward based on coverage and costs. Once I receive the insurance information via the intake paperwork, I will also verify your benefits.
The last thing I need from you before our initial session is completing the onboarding forms so I can gather information and get consent for our sessions.
A full assessment of medical history, health concerns, past and current eating patterns, dieting history, and more. Together, we will come up with a place to start and set short and long-term goals.
These sessions are where the bulk of the work happens. As a team, we will work through the day-to-day challenges, learn new skills, and unlearn disruptive eating behaviors. We will use this time to work towards your nutrition goals and improving your relationship with food.
As a dietitian, everyone assumes I love cooking. That wasn't true for a very long time. I'm slowly healing my relationship with cooking which looks like a blend between following the recipe to a T and winging it and hoping for the best. I'm fiercely loyal to my people (Enneagram 6 here!), an avid planner, lover of all things spooky, Formula1 fanatic, and dog mom to Charles. But most importantly, I'm a huge advocate of trial and error-ing to figure out what works best for me (and in our work together, what works best for you!).
Nutrition shouldn’t be confusing, or overwhelming. Nutrition and knowing how to eat should feel easy and intuitive. We all have the innate wisdom to know how to nourish our bodies.
